This window was commissioned by the children of the DuPage Unitarian-Universalist
Church, in Naperville, Illinois.
The children requested a flaming chalice (the symbol of the denomination)
to put in the window. As the room has a wonderful eastern exposure, and very little
color, this full-window design was chosen. The rainbow surrounding the central
flaming chalice considerably brightens the room on
sunny Sunday mornings.
Description:
The window utilizes translucent glass and is most effective with the sun
shining through it. The chalice is dark brown and textured. The flame is multi-colored
red/orange/gold. The clear background and border are glue-chip glass, with a cracked pattern
that reflects the light nicely. The ring around the flaming chalice is a clear gold
with a very slight texture. The rainbow is red, orange, yellow, green, blue and
purple, all with varying textures and glass types.
The original window uses a 2" clear border and oak frame
to fit the 33" square window opening.
